RIP To The Legend, DMX (December 18, 1970- April 9, 2021)

News broke earlier in the week that iconic Ruff Ryders rapper and actor DMX was hospitalized in grave condition. Sadly, the Yonkers MC has passed at the age of 50, leaving behind a music legacy that generations past, present and future will appreciate.

Born Earl Simmons, DMX burst onto the scene in 1998 with his critically acclaimed album It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot which landed at the number 1 spot on the Billboard 200 and never looked back after that. X would later drop his follow-up album Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood which also landed at the number 1 spot.

X’s enthusiastic and personable persona opened doors in the acting realm, securing roles in Romeo Must Die, Exist Wounds and the cult classic Belly in which he starred alongside Nas. No stranger to controversy, DMX had his fair share of drama and showed that the sun doesn’t always shine but he fought his way through the turmoil and shared his pain with his fans through his music.

Being a fighter for most of his life, The Darkman can finally take it easy knowing his mark in music is forever solidified. Rest In Peace.

Stakes Are High In ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ Trailer

Warner Bros. has unveiled the new trailer for Space Jam: A New Legacy. The footage seems to show that there’s more to the story than just basketball.

LeBron James serves as the film’s protagonist in which his son gets sucked into the “Warner 3000 Server-verse.” The film is full of Easter eggs and characters from other intellectual properties and even shows Don Cheadle as one of the villains called Al-G Rhythm.

When LeBron and his young son Dom are trapped in a digital space by a rogue A.I., LeBron must get them home safe by leading Bugs, Lola Bunny and the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to victory over the A.I.’s digitized champions on the court: a powered-up roster of professional basketball stars as you’ve never seen them before. It’s Tunes versus Goons in the highest-stakes challenge of his life, that will redefine LeBron’s bond with his son and shine a light on the power of being yourself. The ready-for-action Tunes destroy convention, supercharge their unique talents and surprise even ‘King’ James by playing the game their own way.

Nike To Sue MSCHF Over The Lil Nas X ‘Satan Shoes’

Lil Nas X’s troll game comes with a consequence as his sneaker collaboration with MSCHF for the ‘Satan Shoes’ has drawn the unwanted attention of Nike.

The ‘Satan Shoes’ feature a black and red colorway adorned on Nike’s Air Max 97 silhouette and even contain a drop of human blood. MSCHF is a company based out of Brooklyn, NY and it was a group of six employees that actually donated their blood for the sneaker. The drop of blood is mixed with the ink that filled the air bubble on the sole.

On Monday, MSCHF released 666 pairs of the sneaker for $1,018 in which it sold out within one minute. Consequently, Nike had filed a lawsuit against the company stating:

…unauthorized Satan Shoes are likely to cause confusion and dilution and create an erroneous association between MSCHF’s products and Nike. Decisions about what products to put the ‘swoosh’ on belong to Nike, not to third parties like MSCHF. Nike requests that the court immediately and permanently stop MSCHF from fulfilling all orders for its unauthorized Satan Shoes.”

Sotheby’s Set To Auction $35 Million USD Basquiat Artwork

Sotheby’s will be auctioning Jean-Michel Basquiat artwork worth an estimated $35 million USD. once the art is sold, it will be one of Basquiat’s most expensive pieces.

The work, Versus Medici, was created in 1982 and was inspired by the famed artist’s time in Modena, Italy. The artwork features Basquiat’s signature style with a skeleton in an abstract stance as well as wording displayed. The piece is a direct reflection of the Renaissance-era Medici family.

Versus Medici, along with most of Basquiat’s paintings from 1982 is among the most valuable works in the market and was created when the artist was just 22 years of age.

In Versus Medici, Basquiat melds the political and art-historical as he consciously stages a reckoning with the Westernized ideal of visual culture and was intent on mastering and commandeering the accepted ‘rules’ of art history in order to break them.

Grégoire Billault, Sotheby’s New York Head of Contemporary Art

Sotheby’s auction of Jean-Michel Basquiat Versus Medici will take place on May 12.
