A year ago today, the world lost a legend. No words could ever compare to the impact that Kobe had on and off the court. Prayers go up to everyone who lost a loved one on that fateful day as they continue to mourn as well.
In honor of the Black Mamba, we would like to share 24 classic images and 2 videos of the legend himself.
Kobe’s passing has left us all with an empty feeling inside. Despite the sadness we feel of a legend that has gone too soon, it’s important to never forget the lessons he has taught us which can be applied on and off the court. August 23 would have been Mamba’s 42nd birthday and today, as well as days ahead, we honor the legend that is Kobe Bean Bryant.
Kobe Bryant taught us to be better-a better scorer, better GOAT, better father. His philosophy of #MambaMentality changed the game and continues to inspire athletes like Serena Williams, Anthony Davis, Sydney Leroux, Diana Taurasi and Sky Brown today.
Kendrick Lamar narrates the ad which features other sports stars and even shares intimate moments with the legend and his family. Kobe’s daughter, Gigi also makes an appearance in the spot as well. Happy Birthday Kobe! #MambaMentality
As Nike preps for “Mamba Week,” we can expect a week long celebration of Kobe Bryant’s life through the release of much sought after sneakers and apparel. The Kobe 5 Protro “5x Champ” is up next which will see a full size run.
The “5x Champ“ colorway is expect to drop on August 24 (Kobe Bryant Day) at a retail price of $180 USD.
Nike fully commits to preserving the legacy of Kobe Bryant with Mamba Week, a week-long celebration filled with launches celebrating the NBA legend. There will be three important efforts for the move with the first being a donation to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, more focus on the Mamba League, and lastly, the release of more Nike Kobe Protro shoes and apparel. These efforts kick off on August 23, the day before Kobe Bryant Day (8/24), which was declared by the city of Los Angeles.
The Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, in memory of Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, will receive a $1 million donation from the Nike Foundation. The goal is to help kids stay active, especially in undeserved communities while also providing an even playing field for girls.
Continuing, Nike will lend further support to Bryant’s Mamba League partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs in Los Angeles. The league is created to give children a place to advance their fundamental skills of basketball. The Mamba League, which was created in 2017, will continue Bryant’s message of “Work to get better every day, on and off the court.”
Finally, Nike will release more Kobe Protro silhouettes as well as limited quantities of the star’s Lakers jerseys. Look out for these to drop right around Mamba Week.
With the release of the Zoom Kobe 5 Protro “Chaos” colorway, it seems that it’s safe to say Nike will continue to release Kobe Bryant silhouettes.
A new Nike Zoom Kobe 5 Protro could be well on its way in the form of the Nike Zoom Kobe 5 Protro “EYBL”. This colorway is a homage to the Elite Youth Basketball League, featuring rising stars of the game.
Check out the pair above and be on the look out on August 29 as these are slated to drop for $180.
Nike debuted the rerelease of the Nike Zoom Kobe 5 Protro “Chaos” back in January. All plans for the model stopped in its tracks with the tragic passing of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, daughter Gigi and others in a helicopter crash. The COVID-19 pandemic didn’t make anything much better as many upcoming releases have been put in limbo.
Things are looking up as it seems the Nike Zoom Kobe 5 Protro will hopefully get started once again with the “Bruce Lee” and “Big Stage” colorways up next. In addition to the aforementioned color ways, another Protro model is speculated to be in the works with the Nike Zoom Kobe 5 Protro “Heart.” This silhouette has an over all grey, black and white colorway combined with a mixture of patterns.
Getting your hands on any footwear and apparel that pertains to Kobe Bryant seems to be only a pipe dream. With the tragic loss of the Lakers legend only a few months ago, it would seem that Nike is putting a halt on all Bryant merchandise. Even with all the delays of Kobe Bryant signature silhouettes, we do have some good news in the form of the Nike ‘Mamba Fury.’
The Nike ‘Mamba Fury’ makes its way in the form of a Lakers colorway, featuring purple on the heel and midsole as well as hits of yellow on the eyelets. The “Zoom Air” is also infused into the forefoot with an overall white upper rounding out the details.
The Nike ‘Mamba Fury’ in the Lakers colorway retails for $100 USD at select Nike retailers.

Lil Wayne honors the late great Kobe Bryant at the 2020 BET Awards with a chilling performance of his song ‘Kobe Bryant.’ The track was originally released back in 2009 in which Weezy showcased his admiration for his favorite NBA player. The New Orleans rapper even updated part of his lyrics to show respect to Kobe’s family as well as the BLM movement.
This music video is directed by Stefano Bertelli from Seen Film and features something different than the usual as it’s shot in an animated style. In the video, the LA native pays homage to two legends in Kobe Bryant and the track’s featured guest, Nipsey Hussle.
