Safari Hackers Can Take Over Apple Webcams And Microphones

In alarming news, hackers were able to take over users’ webcams and microphones on Apple Macs, MacBooks, iPads and iPhones. Ryan Pickren, a security researcher, found the bugs and stated that they were grouped together and sent in the form of a link which tricks the Safari browser into giving up control of the webcam and mic.

Wired has states that hackers can secretly launch the user’s webcam and microphone and in turn, record video, audio, and even create photos. Apple has thus rewarded the researcher a $75,000 USD bug bounty and also patched the bugs through its January and March updates. An important note is if users have not updated their Apple products (in January or March), then they may still be left vulnerable for any further attacks.
