Justin Roiland, the co-creator of Rick and Morty has joined forces with former head writer Mike McMahan to develop a new animated comedy series titled Solar Opposites for HULU. Rick and Morty has developed some what of a cult following where you either understand the humor or you don’t. Solar Opposites seems to be going in the same comedic direction as well as animation style.

The plot of Solar Opposites goes as follows-

“[a] team of four aliens who have escaped their exploding home world, only to crash land into a move-in ready home in suburban America. They are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo (Justin Roiland) and Yumyulack (Sean Giambroni) only see the pollution, crass consumerism, and human frailty, while Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Jesse (Mary Mack) love humans and all their TV, junk food, and fun stuff. Their mission: protect the Pupa, a living super computer that will one day evolve into its true form, consume them and terraform the Earth.”

Solar Opposites premieres on Hulu on May 8, 2020.

Nike To Develope Face Shields For Medical Workers

With Nike’s recent announcement that it will pledge $15 million to assist in coronavirus relief, they also plan to help out healthcare professionals during this tumultuous time of trying to combat the pandemic.

Nike CEO John Donahoe stated that the company is currently developing protective equipment (PPE) for doctors and nurses being that they probably need them the most at this time. Among the items that Nike will produce will be face shields created under the guidance of healthcare workers at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU).

Companies like Nike need to do our part. Based on needs identified by the teams and health professionals at Oregon Health & Science University, our teammates are working right now about how to best help, including prototyping face shields of OHSU and others.

Nike’s statement, via Business Insider, said that the company will begin by supporting the Oregon healthcare workers first since it is launching the initiative with OHSU.

Netflix To Launch $100 Million Relief Fund

With the self-isolation and quarantine mandate in full effect, one might imagine that streaming services like Netflix are seeing astronomical numbers as far as viewership is concerned.

Now, the internet entertainment service is planning to launch a $100 million relief fund for members of the creative/ entertainment community who are currently out of work due to the spread of coronavirus. As a result of this horrendous pandemic, all television and film production has now been put on hold globally and leaving many crews and casts without jobs.

“This community has supported Netflix through the good times, and we want to help them through these hard times, especially while governments are still figuring out what economic support they will provide.”

Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer

Here’s how some of those funds will be allocated:

$15 million of the fund will go to third parties and non-profits providing emergency relief to out-of-work crew and cast in the countries where we have a large production base.

$1 million each will be donated to the SAG-AFTRA Covid-19 Disaster Fund, the Motion Picture and Television Fund and the Actors Fund Emergency Assistance in the US.

$1 million between the AFC and Fondation des Artistes.

This could potentially be a win/win for everyone being that Netflix’s success depends on how well studios perform on both small and large sets.

‘Playboy’ Magazine To End It’s 66 Year Run

Playboy has just announced that it will be ending its magazine publication for the rest of 2020. Most sources have concluded that this temporary shut down will ultimately be a permanent one due to not only the COVID-19 crisis but the print climate as a whole.

What once was a go-to magazine for exclusive material as far as editorials and exposés go, has now become obsolete as much of what the gentlemen’s magazine has been known for can be found free on the internet.

Founded in 1953 by Hugh Hefner, Playboy Magazine trail-blazed the print and press industry while using its influence to branch off into other avenues like clubs and television. The 70’s were the publication’s more defining years as they began selling 5.6 million copies a month and the iconic bunny logo became one of the most popular calling cards of the brand as it was used to license products such clothing, bags, novelty items and more.

Even though it’s print publication has seemingly met its end, Playboy as a brand will continue to thrive with it’s huge online presence and different avenues of licensing.
