Hajime Sorayama Imagines Intimacy Between Robots at NANZUKA Tokyo

Coming up next month (March), NANZUKA will be showcasing two events displaying the work of Japanese illustrator Hajime Sorayama. Taking over the main gallery space will be ‘Sex Matter,’ while ‘Trex’ will open in the “2G” studio at Shibuya Parco.

Hajime Sorayama specializes in the portrayal of erotic feminine robots, challenging social norms, taboo and political correctness throughout all his work.

With his ‘Sex Matter’ exhibition, Sorayama displays his robotic works which are inspired by sex and emphasizing that “life is born in this world through the existence of both the male and female sex.” Sorayama’s second solo show, ‘Trex,’ will showcase five new sculptures and there will also be dinosaur robot paintings of a Tyrannosaurus rex, Stegosaurus and much more.

‘Trex’ is set to launch March 13 while ‘Sex Matter’ will open on March 14 and will run until April 12.

Within 48 hours of being displayed in his hometown of Bristol, Banky’s new mural has been vandalized with the words “BCC wankers,”

The mural went up on February 13 and people couldn’t help but wonder if the artwork was Banky’s. The famed artist later confirmed that it was in fact his via his Instagram and website.

Ai Weiwei Creates ‘Safety Jackets Zipped the Other Way’ Artwork

Ai Weiwei partners with DIY store HORNBACH to create an art piece using materials from the store. Weiwei aptly named the art ‘Safety Jackets Zipped the Other Way’ which allows anyone who visits these stores to build their own version.

The piece is constructed from industrial highly visible safety jackets which are applied together using zips. A publication/art book/ assembly manual also comes with the ‘Safety Jackets Zipped the Other Way’ and can be downloaded from the HORNBACH website.

Hiroki Tsukuda’s Dystopian Future With ‘THEY LIVE’ NYC Exhibition

This March, Tokyo-based artist Hiroki Tsukuda is bringing a new series of work to NYC’s Petzel Gallery for a solo exhibition entitled ‘They Live.’ Tsukuda’s medium of choice is usually black charcoal and ink, portraying drawings of futuristic cities and environments that could be the backdrop for a ‘Terminator’ film.

Take a closer look at Tsukuda’s Neon Demon (2019) in the pic above. “They Live” will run from March 5 to April 18.

‘Inside Chanel’ | Gabrielle Chanel’s Relationship With Art

Inside Chanel plans to launch a new series of episodes that will take a deep dive into the relationship Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel had with art.

Art became part of her everyday life through her friendships with artists in Paris and also her exposure to cultural movements of the time. The first episode of this new series, titled “Gabrielle Chanel and the Arts,” gives us a look at the creative links she developed in the art world while unveiling the “upheaval she initiated in her creations.”

‘Gabrielle Chanel and the Arts’ will debut February 24 on Inside Chanel‘s website. Four upcoming episodes will focus on Chanel’s relationship with literature and poetry, cinema, dance and music.

Gentle Monster Introduces “MY MARS” Collection

The Spring/Summer 2020 ‘MY MARS’ collection comes courtesy of eyewear brand Gentle Monster. The Korean based company enlisted the help of London-based artist Matthew Stone for the direction.

Stone, who most notably worked on FKA Twigs’ album cover for ‘Magdalene,’ uses his signature combination of traditional brush strokes and digital manipulation to produce the surreal and futuristic aesthetic. Styles include the Makina, Kalo, Circle T, Krow and Ringa.
