Sony’s 2021 PlayStation 5 Restock Has Already Sold out

2021 is already heading for a rough start as the restock for Sony’s next-gen PS5 has instantly sold out.

On January 14, one of Sony’s Twitter handles @SonyRewards announced that a limited run of PS5 would be available. Much like the initial PS5 launch date, buyers had to be ready and waiting for the go-ahead which would lead to numerous salty and frustrated consumers.

As part of the restock through @SonyRewards, the PlayStation 5 consoles could only be acquired by exchanging Sony Rewards points. Judging by the hype that’s been given for Sony’s “next big thing,” getting a PS5 in 2021 will be somewhat of a task that potential buyers seem up for.

It seems Sony has underestimated the demand for PlayStation 5s as the company is finding it hard to meet consumer wants on a global scale. The overall disaster from pre-order sales should’ve have been a clear indicator of the chaos that would ensue.

More and more people are adhering to social distancing measures and staying home which greatly impacted the sell of Sony’s next-gen console in terms of customer demand. Speaking to Russian news agency TASS, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan has now confirmed a gamer’s worst fears that all PlayStation 5s produced so far have already been sold.

“Everything is sold. Absolutely everything is sold… I’ve spent much of the last year trying to be sure that we can generate enough demand for the product. And now in terms of my executive bandwidth, I’m spending a lot more time on trying to increase supply to meet that demand.”

Ryan also discussed the difficulties of releasing a next-gen console in the middle of a pandemic.

“Of all the things that I’ve learned this year, one is that I wouldn’t plan on doing another big console launch in the midst of a global pandemic, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody else. It’s been difficult, it’s been challenging from the production side, not being able to get anybody into the factories in Asia… Before we started production, we had to do all the manufacturing preparation by camera remotely. I mean, just imagine that for a precision device like the PlayStation 5.”

Sony’s PS5 Has Sold More Units In 12 Hours Than The PS4 Sold In The First 12 Weeks

When Sony opened up pre-orders for its highly-anticipated PlayStation 5, they perhaps underestimated the demand for the next-gen console. One major problem during the pre-order window was server issues which caused many potential consumers to be unsuccessful in securing the console. Despite the problems, the tech company has now revealed that the PS5 managed to pre-sell more units during the first 12 hours of pre-orders than the PS4 did during its first 12 weeks of launch.

The demand as expressed by the level of pre-order has been very, very considerable. It may well be that not everybody who wants to buy a PS5 on launch day will be able to find one [although the company is] working as hard as we ever can [to make sure there’ll be enough supply for the holiday season at the end of the year.]

Sony Announces PlayStation 5 Price + Release Date

Sony held its live event today and has officially announced that the PlayStation 5 will cost $499.99 USD while the Digital Edition will be priced at $399.99 USD. Both versions of Sony’s next-gen console are slated to launch on November 12.

In retrospect, the PlayStation 4 originally landed at $399 USD and its Pro model sold for the same price a couple years later. The backwards compatibility feature of the PS5 allows for users to still play their PS4 titles, although there is a limited amount of games reported so far.

As of now, there is no word of preorder details but one can expect an official announcement soon.

Sony Has Released Several Special Themed Dualshock 4 Controllers For The PS4

Even though Sony has already introduced its next-generation console in the PlayStation 5, they have also just announced themed Dualshock 4 controllers that will release for the PlayStation 4. With the release of these controllers, as well as more PS4 games announced at their State Of Play Event, it seems like the brand will continue to support its current-gen consoles simultaneously with next-gen systems.

These controllers will come in an array of color schemes like Red Camouflage, Berry Blue, Green Camouflage, Magma Red, Midnight Blue, Electric Purple, Rose Gold, and Steel Black. Priced at $64.99 USD, head over to PlayStation’s website to purchase now.

Sony Reveals New PlayStation 5 DualSense Controller

After Microsoft revealed its next-gen gaming system in the Xbox Series X, many people have been impatiently waiting for Sony to unveil what they’ve been working on. The wait is over as we at least have images of the Sony PlayStation 5 controller. Introduced as the DualSense controller, this device goes in a different direction than the normal DualShock controllers and capitalizes on the trail that the DualShock 4 for PS4 has blazed.

The haptic feedback function of this wireless controller will utilize the sense of touch when playing video games. This means that the controller will react to certain situations during gameplay. The L2 and R2 will come equipped with adaptive triggers for better tension when playing shooters where you have to draw your weapon. To make the DualSense feel smaller, the hand triggers and grip have been slightly updated as well. One major advantage of this updated controller is the fact that the battery life will improve despite all the new features.

The “Share” button has been replaced by the “Create” button and a built-in microphone has also been added. Sony plans to share more information on these new additions as more hardware news is announced.

As far as cosmetics goes, PlayStation has opted for a two-toned white and black color scheme which is far different than past design of just one solid color. This final design is the result of several concepts and hundreds of mockups over the last few years.

Sony Unveils New Hardware Specs For The PlayStation 5

Sony has just revealed the new hardware details for the upcoming PlayStation 5. Lead system architect Mark Cerny presented a livestream video that gave more pertinent information of the system’s architecture, including the SSD and load time speed.

The SSD will be able to load 5 GB per second which will eliminate loading screen time for the PS5. With this breakthrough, there won’t be any levels that need to be segmented in order to conceal load times and textures will render a whole lot faster. The SSD will come with a custom flash controller with six levels for developers to code depending on the priority of different in-game moments.

The backwards compatibility feature of the PS5 has also been confirmed as it will have PS4 and PS4 Pro legacy modes which means the system can run titles from those previous Playstations normally, while giving you a next-gen experience. 3D audio will also be prevalent as Cerny stated that it was a major focus in developing the PlayStation 5 for developers.
