Nike quietly unveiled a new Kobe Bryant silhouette with the Mamba Fury. This model is Kobe’s first new silhouette since his untimely passing back in January.
The Mamba Fury will arrive in “Black/Red” and a “Black/White,” featuring details like snake-like scales on a mesh upper and a dropped Swoosh on the midsole.
No official release date has been set but pairs are set to arrive a select retailers in the coming weeks.
Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett will receive the greatest honor in sports by being inducted into the 2020 Basketball Hall Of Fame.
Besides the three greats already mentioned, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame will also include the following:
WNBA All-Star Tamika Catchings, former Houston Rockets head coach and 2-time NBA Champion Rudy Tomjanovich, Eddie Sutton, who was four-time NCAA coach of the year, three-time NCAA Champion coach Kim Mulkey of Baylor and five-time NCAA Division II Coach of the Year Barbra Stevens from Bentley University.
This news is bitter-sweet as it comes just a few months after the late great Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter accident. However the circumstance, it’s definitely a no-brainer that The Black Mamba would be a first ballot selection and well deserved.
This year has already been a roller coaster of emotions especially for the world of sports. Monday (2/24) was deeply emotional in Los Angeles as the City of Angels held Kobe and GiGi Bryant’s memorial at Staples Center. Attendees included fans, teammates, friends, and rivals, with all prepared to say their final goodbyes to the legend.
Nike released an amazing commercial to give Kobe the going away he so deserved. The commercial is around two minutes in length and emphasizes the word “forever” with all of The Black Mamba’s accomplishments flashing before it from the titles he’s won, his scoring achievements, and most importantly, him being a father. The commercial wraps up with “Mamba” fading in with the final words “Mamba forever.”
Kobe Bryant’s impact reached more than just basketball, in fact, his impact far exceeded sports in general. With resellers clambering to buy every piece of Kobe merchandise especially sneakers, one has to wonder if Nike will ever release another Kobe Bryant silhouette.
With that being said, many have wondered if the Kobe 5 Protro ‘Lakers’ colorway would see the light of day. Nike postponed the championship-inspired colorway originally and we’ve heard no follow up as to when or if they would release them, that is until now. It seems certain retailers have been listing March as a release date with some shops overseas already having them.
We now have official images which could only mean the Black Mamba’s signature shoe in the iconic Lakers Purple/Gold colors could be upon us. The release is rumored to hit on March 26th so hopefully we get a chance to see them at select stores and Nike SNKRS.
We’re about to be a little over two months in of 2020 and it seems like we’ve experienced the whole year already, especially with the recent tragic news of the death of the legendary Kobe Bryant, his daughter GiGi and the rest of the victims of the horrific helicopter crash.
The NBA is doing it’s job of keeping Kobe’s legacy alive by honoring him in just about all aspects of basketball whether it be in games or events.
In a press conference on Saturday, NBA commissioner Adam Silver announced that the All-Star Game MVP award had been renamed to the “Kobe Bryant MVP Award.”

Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and the seven other victims of a fatal helicopter crashlast week will be honored in a public memorial at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 24, as reported on Thursday by the Los Angeles Times.
Bryant’s wife, Vanessa Bryant, also confirmed the news earlier today in an Instagram post, sharing an image of a flyer with the words “#2, #24 #20 years as a Laker.”
The Los Angeles Lakers honored player, friend, and brother Kobe Bryant last night. With much anticipation leading up to game time, many were wondering how the organization would honor the 20 year vet and needless to say they didn’t disappoint.
The event was star-studded as one would expect with Usher singing his rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’ to Boyz II Men singing the national anthem. Half time saw Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth performing their hit song ‘See You Again,’ but it was LeBron James’ powerful speech about his friend and big bro Kobe that stood out the most.
The Los Angeles Lakers are returning to action tonight after Tuesday’s game vs the Los Angeles Clippers was postponed due to the sudden death of Laker great Kobe Bryant, daughter GiGi and others. Fans in attendance at the Staples Center will be given T-shirts in honor of the future Hall of Famer.
Sandy Hooper of USA Today stated that there would be Kobe Bryant shirts with his numbers 8 and 24 placed on the seats at the Staples Center for everyone who attends tonight’s game. The shirts are split with one number for each side of the arena.
Tip off against the Portland Trail Blazers will be at 10 p.m. EST. on ESPN.
There were some major changes announced by the NBA pertaining to the All-Star format this year. Apparently every quarter would be a mini-game for charity and the final quarter would be untimed with a target score that will decide which team wins. Scores will be reset — back to 0-0 — at the start of the second and third quarters, then restored to begin the fourth quarter.
In addition to All-Star format changes, The NBA plans to honor Kobe Bryant by incorporating the No. 24 jersey he wore for the last decade of his illustrious NBA career into the scoring format of the game. The team that wins the All-Star Game will be the first to reach a target score, determined by the total points the team in the lead scored in the first three quarters combined — plus 24, to show respect to Bryant.
The NBA stated that there will be a multitude of tributes to Bryant, his 13 year old daughter, Gianna, and the seven other people who tragically lost their lives in Sunday’s helicopter crash throughout All-Star weekend, including the showcase game on Feb. 16.
“We spent a lot of time considering the right target number to use for the fourth quarter,” said Byron Spruell, the NBA’s president for league operations. “Through the events of this week it became clear to us that the only appropriate number for this season’s All-Star game is 24.”
The target scoring format would be the latest addition that the NBA has made in order to make the game more competitive.
With the recent passing of arguably one of the greatest basketball players to ever play the game, many people from all over the world have begun to share their stories of how Kobe impacted their life.
